Different kinds of spray filler:

What is spray filler?

Spray-applied filler is a ready-mixed filler that is applied with a spray for efficient application on large surfaces. The method has been specially developed for professional use and is used primarily for large projects in which the focus is on efficiency, consistency and the work environment.

Spray filling is an established method in modern construction and painting operations. The technology saves both time and effort, especially when fine smoothing walls and ceilings, joint filling, mounting corner reinforcements or structural filling in ceilings, also known as texturing. The result is consistent, fast and cost-efficient.

When and where should you apply spray filler?

Spray filler is an excellent choice for large projects – both new production and renovation – where there are high demands for efficiency, precision and a consistent end result. The method saves time, reduces strain on the body and produces a professional end result, even on large surfaces.

  • Large surfaces: smart for open-plan solutions, office areas and homes.

  • Ceiling and walls: an efficient way to cover large surfaces quickly with a consistent result.

  • Joint filling of plasterboard panels and embedding of corner reinforcements.

  • Texturing: create structure in the ceiling, which is both decorative and functional.

Here’s a step-by-step guide to applying spray filler
Prepare the substrate

Make sure that the wall or ceiling is clean and dry.

Remove dust, loose particles and any old paint that is coming loose.

Start by sanding the surface and filling larger holes and uneven surfaces in order to create a consistent substrate before you start spraying.

Fill the spraying equipment

Use filler in a 15-litre bucket or sack.

Apply the filler

First spray joints and ceiling angles.

Then spray the ceiling, and then the walls. Spray evenly over the surface.

Smoothing

Smooth both ceilings and walls using a ceiling smoother, or use a Speed Smoother, which is available with a pole and in a number of different sizes.

Dry and sand the surface

When the filler is dry, sand it carefully for a consistent finish.

Drying time, durability and environmental tips when using spray filler

Drying time

The drying time depends on the external circumstances, such as temperature, humidity and layer thickness. Different kinds of substrate also have different drying times. It is important to let each layer dry properly before you continue applying filler or start sanding. As a general rule, the filler should be dry after 12–24 hours.

Shelf life

Filler has a limited shelf life. Once packaging has been opened, the product should be used within a few weeks, while unopened packaging will last for up to one year from the manufacturing date.

Consider the environment

Any leftover filler should be taken to the nearest recycling centre. You can dispose of cleaned packaging in the plastic recycling container at your local recycling station.
