Applying filler to a plaster wall

Inspect the surfaces to make sure that work on the plaster walls has been performed correctly. Check National guidelines for installing plasterboard walls and ceilings.

Apply filler to joints using a filler approved for installing paper tape.

Apply filler to screw heads.

Apply filler to joints and screw heads when it has dried. Joints often need to have filler applied twice after a tape has been installed. (If you apply a thin coat, this facilitates sanding.)

Sand and dust down the surfaces.

Paint or wallpaper the surfaces.
